Members of the BC Gaming Industry Association (BCGIA) adhere to all requirements of British Columbia’s Gaming Control Act and Regulations as well as detailed and rigorous policies and procedures as prescribed by the British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC), the Gaming Policy and Enforcement Branch (GPEB) and the Financial Transactions and Analysis Centre of Canada (FINTRAC).

On September 28, 2017, Attorney General David Eby announced the appointment of Peter German to head up a review of the province’s anti-money laundering policies and practices. While the review is due in March 2018, Mr. German has been asked to provide his recommendations to government as they are developed instead of waiting to complete the report.

The BCGIA is very supportive of the review and the appointment of Mr. German given his expertise and related experience. Furthermore, we are pleased with the sense of urgency the Minister is bringing to bear to ensure this review is dealt with swiftly and appropriately.

In order to remain relevant and effective, compliance and regulatory structures must continually evolve and improve to address new challenges. We believe that the Minister’s review will serve to accomplish this purpose and welcome the opportunity to provide our support.
