The BC Gaming Industry Association (BCGIA) is in full support of the Provincial Health Officers (PHO) new proof of vaccination requirement starting September 13 th , 2021, that will allow entry into a casino in British Columbia. We continue to work collaboratively with the BC Lottery Corporation (BCLC) and the Provincial Health Office (PHO) to ensure we are providing a safe environment for our workers and customers.

We are also pleased to see the recent announcement of a temporary provincial health order requiring masks to be worn in all indoor public spaces, including casinos. We support our Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry’s recent statement, “as transmission of COVID-19 increases in B.C., primarily among unvaccinated people and in part due to the Delta variant, it’s important to take this extra temporary step to make indoor public spaces safer for everyone. We need to continue doing the things that protect us, including wearing masks in indoor, public areas, practising hand hygiene regularly, staying away if we are sick and keeping a respectful distance from people. And most important of all, every person should get vaccinated to protect themselves, their loved ones and their community.”

In fiscal 2019/20, casinos and community gaming centres generated $929 million of the $1.3 billion in net income that BCLC delivered to the Province of B.C. to support investments in healthcare and education, community programs and First Nations.

Welcome to the

BC Gaming Industry Association

We provide strategic leadership for the BC gaming industry on behalf of private sector gaming operators and enhance  relationships, education and advocacy through involvement with community stakeholders, government, media and the public.

In BC, the provincial government regulates the industry to ensure a fair and safe environment, strict anti-money laundering procedures, and the provision of responsible gaming programs. BC Lottery Corporation (BCLC) has a mandate to conduct and manage gambling in a socially responsible manner for the benefit of British Columbians and contracts with private sector gaming operators, while the Gaming Policy and Enforcement Branch (GPEB) of the provincial Ministry of Attorney General regulates the industry. Casino, community gaming and bingo operations generated revenue of $1.9 billion to BCLC in 2016/17.
